Hey everyone, hope you are all holding up good. I am sorry for not posting that often lately, but my work program has been crazy.
Before I ask you the new question of the day, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that I am going to have another research call for interview participants up very soon. So, anyone of you that might be interested into doing a personal and in-depth interview with me can send me a message through the contact form of this blog, and I will directly explain the process to you through email. I wanted to give people that follow this blog a heads-up for this possibility, as it might be easier for some of you to verbally communicate your thoughts regarding your nonreligious views than having to write them down here. The research call will also be published here, possibly later in the week.
And now, for today’s question:
What do you think of the statement “Religion is harmful for humanity”? Can you elaborate on the reasons you agree and/or disagree with this statement?
Inquisition, crusades, jihad, destruction of national monuments (because they were temples of older religions) and imposition of certain ethic codes over the years are some of the reasons religion is harmfull to humanity. There are also good teachings in almost every religion but in my oppinnion those teachings can be taught to people regardless if they are religious or not.
Religion has been the cause of much undue suffering and violence throughout history. It is not the only thing fueling these events but it is one incredibly powerful factor. On an individual level it doesn’t seem as dangerous but the size of organized religions into powerful political groups is super troubling in contemporary times.
